When you think about it, poets do warn, even when the subject matter is light or happy. It makes me think of a line in a memoir I read recently, 'Manic: A Memoir' by Terry Cheney. She was talking about manic depression, but the quote worked for me by substituting 'life' for 'the disease'. It's acutely true for manic depressives, but anyone can appreciate the weight of it if they just give pause. Poets nod to it constantly. “The cruelest curse of life is also its most sacred promise: You will not feel this way forever.” How interesting is this?
