I haven’t seen the blog Anecdotal Evidence before — thanks, William. The piece quotes the best bit of genteel damning with faint praise I’ve seen in a while. From Elizabeth Bishop: “Although much of the poetry I happen to admire is not to be found in it, I shall think this is the best anthology I know of.”
She even ends her sentence with a preposition — take that, grammarians. The overall limp effect the “shall” imparts is also cute.
