    interesting segment today, in which wallace attempts to draw the distinction between “commercial” and “serious” literature, made all the more interesting as he is attempting to delineate them to a foreign journalist.

    the part about the solitary (and quiet) nature of reading is also riveting.

    I’ve seen many of these types of author interviews, but this is the first one that’s given me a pang that I wish I could have known him. I just like him; like how he handles the discomfort of the interview and like what he has to say.

    I disagree with him including King in his list of writers separate from ’serious’ literature, but I understand why he does and wouldn’t be able to refute all the points he might make to support it. I think King is a wonderful example of writing that invites introspection while cracking along in the everyday turned on its ear by the absurd.
